Ten years ago, 9 months after having my son, I had a stroke. At a time that my child needed me to teach him to walk, and instead I was learning to re walk myself. To prevent me from having recurrent strokes I’ve been on a regiment of blood transfusions. Having this chronic disease is not only about the medical challenges. It also affects your mind, body and soul. However, I am strong willed, and big or small I take nothing for granted. Life is precious and could be taken away in an instant, by that next crisis lurking around the corner. My now 11 year old son is my strength. But also finding purpose is key to anyone that has a chronic illness. I found my purpose in helping other Sickle Cell Warriors understand that they are not alone, even though we all feel that way.
