Short Bio

When I was in the 7th grade my school sent home permission slips for the students to participate in testing from UCLA research in Los Angeles. My test came back that I carried the Sickle Cell Trait. That was the year our family went to the university and participated in the information study. Fast forward to adulthood, one of my sisters had a little girl who became very sick in 1988 at 6 months. The hospitals could not figure out at the time what was wrong with her as Sickle cell was still under research. Finally she was diagnosed with Sickle Cell anemia with a crisis. Everything I learned from the information research in the 7th grade came back to me. She has struggled all her life with Sickle Cell Anemia, living a unfulfilled life due to being too sick to work, yet want to be her own woman and live by herself and take care of her kids. My heart goes out to her as her sickness affects her kids, and her determination to be all she can be in spite of her disease makes her a shero. . I often pray she can get  relief instead of having the conversation about if something happens to her , who she wants to raise her kids. I hope to find out any information that can help her live a better and longer life, to see her children grow into adults. This is one of my stories and I am affected  from it daily.
