Stigma of using strong painkillers
How do you find the process of asking for/using strong painkillers?
This is something that I know a lot of people with sickle cell are often met with strong resistance, and in my opinion, it is not fair!! We have to deal with crazy amounts of pain and sometimes the weaker painkillers aren’t enough. However, when we ask for stronger medications, we have to deal with the stigma of being labelled as a drug seeker.
I hope one day that we receive a more welcoming and understanding response from our healthcare providers.
