The American Red Cross and Sports Clips Haircuts have partnered to increase blood and platelet donations across the U.S., offering a coupon for a free haircut to all those who donate during September. Blood donations can be life-saving for people with chronic conditions like sickle cell disease (SCD).

“The Red Cross and Sport Clips have partnered for several years to help ensure blood is available for patients in need leading into fall,” Donna M. Morrissey, director of national partnerships at Red Cross Biomedical Services, said in a press release. “We are excited to team up once again for this year’s Saving Lives Never Looked So Good campaign and offer a coupon for a free haircut to volunteer blood and platelet donors in appreciation for their lifesaving gift.”

The American Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that offers shelter, food and emotional support to victims of disasters. It also collects about 40% of the nation’s blood supply, among other very important services. All volunteers at the organization know how important blood donations are, and donors of all blood types are constantly necessary.

“The need for blood touches so many lives — not just those who need blood, but their family members and loved ones too. This is one way Sport Clips can thank those who give the gift of life to support the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross. They donate blood and we give them a free haircut,” Amanda Palm, Sport Clips’ corporate communications manager, said.

Anyone who donates blood or platelets at a Red Cross blood center Sept. 1–30 will receive a coupon for a free haircut via email within days of the donation.

The coupon is valid through Nov. 6 at participating Sport Clips locations.

Sport Clips Haircuts was established in 1993 and specializes in haircuts for men and boys. Sport Clips is the official haircutter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and a participant in the Help a Hero annual fundraiser, providing “haircuts with heart.”

If you’d like to become a blood donor, you can schedule an appointment through the free Blood Donor App, visit the American Red Cross Blood Donation webpage, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767). A blood donor card or identification such as a driver’s license (or two other forms of identification) will be requested of all would-be donors. Minors ages 16 can donate but only with parental consent, and older teenagers wanting to donate must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in overall good health.
